Thrilltastic Thursday

A great day for the start of May! Arlington National Cemetery with a USM wreath laying, a visit with Senator Feingold, a quick capitol tour, lunch at Union Station, fun at the National Zoo, a White House picture stop, and the students' favorite - pizza a dancing on the Potomac River.

The Wreath Laying Ceremony

Thanks for helping the students participate in this ceremony. The first time I saw it in person I had just visited the newly dedicated Vietnam Memorial. My family and friends had made it back from the war, but the friend I was with was able to find her cousin's name on the wall. Even though we were rebellious, young, college students, we had to stop and take a breath and reflect on what the tomb means. I was very proud to be a USM parent today as I saw the dignity with which these students represented us. No matter what position they take in the current climate, it is important to remember the sacrifice of those who came before.

Thank you for the kind words, Kathryn. Overall it was a fantastic trip and the wreath laying ceremony at Arlington certainly was a highlight. Thanks again for leaving a comment and checking in our progress during the 2008 DC Trip.
